DC 37 Education Department

Education Scholarships for Members' Children and Grandchildren

Applications for 2013 will be available October 8, 2012 – February 22, 2013. The deadline for submission of 2013 scholarship application is March 8, 2013.

The DC 37 Education Committee offers a number of scholarships for children and grandchildren of DC 37 members in good standing and retirees who are members of the DC 37 Retirees Association. Click here to request an application packet or call the Education Department at (212) 341-4999.

The following scholarships are available:

Memorial Scholarship

The Memorial Scholarship honors past union leaders who have helped build DC 37. The Memorial Scholarship awards scholarships each year to applicants who are seniors in high school. Each award is $1,000 and may only be received one time.


DC 37 Education Committee Scholarship

The DC 37 Education Committee awards scholarships in the amount of $1,000. The recipients must be currently enrolled in the first or second year of a 2-year or 4-year college, university, technical or trade school. High School students are not eligible for this scholarship. Each award is $1,000 and may only be received one time.

Overcoming Obstacles Scholarship

The DC 37 Education Committee awards scholarships to applicants who are overcoming physical or learning disabilities. Applicants will be required to submit proof of disability as part of the application packet. The recipients must be a high school senior or currently enrolled in the first or second year of a 2-year or 4-year college, university, technical or trade school. Each award is $1,000 and may only be received one time.

Evelyn Gaskin Memorial Scholarship

The DC 37 Education Committee awards Evelyn Gaskin Memorial Scholarships to applicants who will be pursuing a career in Education. When the winners are selected, each will be required to submit proof of enrollment in an Education degree program in accordance with the guidelines in the application packet. The recipients must be currently enrolled in the first or second year of a 2-year or 4-year college or university. High School students are not eligible for this scholarship. Each award is $1,000 and may only be received one time.

All applicants will be required to submit a completed application package and include all required documentation. The selection process for all of the scholarships will be by lottery.
