Faith reaches out to the Bronx
Activists from the Labor, Faith and Community Outreach Program had a busy Saturday on Oct. 10, working with dozens of neighborhood children at the first Bronx Children's Sports and Fitness Expo. The DC 37 activists joined volunteers from District Council 1707, the Civil Service Employees Association, the Municipal Credit Union and the United Federation of Teachers, exposing the kids to a full day of gymnastics, archery, volleyball, soccer and many other activities to encourage them to exercise regularly and get in shape. The volunteers also provided health screenings for high blood pressure and asthma along with basic nutrition and weight counseling.
