NAACP honors Lillian Roberts

Exec. Director Lillian Roberts (l.) and Jewish Labor Comm. head Stuart Appelbaum are honored June 6 by Dr. Annie B. Martin of New York NAACP.

The New York City Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People recently honored DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts for her “outstanding contributions to the cause of freedom and justice.”

Roberts was honored June 6 at the NAACP’s 97th Annual Freedom Fund Dinner-Dance together with Stuart Appelbaum, president of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union and president of the Jewish Labor Committee.

Roberts and Appelbaum “are part of our frontline troops, under the banner of our brotherhood and sisterhood, and strengthened in the unity of labor and civil rights,” said Dr. Annie B. Martin, president of the New York branch.

“It’s a real honor to receive this award from one of the most important civil rights organizations in the history of this country,” said Roberts.

Maf Misbah Uddin, treasurer of DC 37 and president of Local 1407, and Denis M. Hughes, president of the New York State AFL-CIO, co-chaired the dinner committee.
