Deadline is Dec. 31 to apply for AFSCME scholarships

The deadline for applications for the 2009 AFSCME Family Scholarship is Dec. 31. Thirteen scholarships of $2,000 per year will be awarded to the winners selected from the applications that meet the eligibility requirements.

The scholarships may be used for any field of study and will be renewed each year for up to four years, provided the student remains enrolled in a full-time degree program at an accredited institution.

To be eligible the student must:

  • Be a graduating high school senior who is a child of an AFSCME member (or whose legal guardian or financially responsible grandparent is a member);
  • Be enrolled in a full-time degree program at anaccredited four-year institution (or at a two-year institution that will transfer credits to a four-year institution), and
  • Have taken the SAT or the ACT.

For applications, please mail your request to: AFSCME Family Scholarship Program, c/o Education Department, 1625 L Street, NW, Washington, DC 20036 or E-mail education@afscme.org. Applications can also be downloaded from the AFSCME Web site at www.afscme.org/members/880.cfm. Completed applications for the 2009 scholarship must be postmarked no later than Dec. 31, 2008. Winners will be announced by March 31, 2009.
