Council 37, city's largest public employee union, endorses Adriano Espaillat
in September 9 primary
District
Council 37, the city's largest public employee union with 125,000 members and
50,000 retirees, voted unanimously to endorse Adriano Espaillat in the September
9th primary election.
The vote by the DC 37 Executive Board follows the
recommendation of the DC 37 Screening Committee.
"We endorsed Assembly
member Adriano Espaillat because he cares about the issues that are important
to this union," said DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts. "His
record of standing by this union in our fight to save the jobs of union members
employed by the New York City Off-Track Betting Corp., to protect the pensions
of working men and women and to save the services we provide from draconian budget
cuts shows that he will best represent the interests of the labor community of
our city and our state.
"With our endorsement comes a pledge to work
diligently on his behalf with our powerful, sophisticated field operations to
get out the vote. This union has a proven record of successfully supporting our
endorsed candidates."
In accepting the endorsement
Assemblyman Espaillat said, "I am delighted and honored to receive the support
of the members of DC 37. For the past 12 years I have worked closely in Albany
with DC 37's leaders to make sure that New York State respects the rights of working
men and women. Whether it's fighting for health care or guaranteeing the City
of New York its fair share of resources, I know that I have a powerful ally in
DC 37. I look forward to continuing this relationship for many years to come."
DC 37 is New York City's
largest public employee union, representing 125,000 members and 50,000 retirees.
