MELS webinars offer free legal tips & now available online
MELS, the union’s Municipal Employees Legal Services, held three webinars in December to help hundreds of union members and retirees learn the latest information on New York real estate, housing, tax deductions, credits and filing tips, and free, contactless tax preparation for low-income earners.

Housing Webinar
On Jan 31, more than 150 DC 37 members and retirees watched the virtual MELS Housing webinar. John Bart, Co-Supervising Attorney of the MELS Housing Unit, led the discussion and explained how Housing Court and evictions have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The webinar also focused on how to handle harassment and retaliation, rent stabilized and unregulated apartments, Mitchell-Lama housing, NYCHA, rental assistance programs, and more.
