Union supports DC 1707 campaign
Union activists, joined parents and elected officials on the steps of City Hall where they called for pay parity for Head Start and child-care employees who work with children at community based organizations. Employees work during the summer months and many school holidays, yet earn significantly less than their peers at the Dept. of Education. Many of these workers are represented by District Council 1707 and are affiliated with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.
“We stand proudly with our sisters and brothers from DC 1707,” said DC 37 Executive Director Henry Garrido at the April 11 rally. “Their fight is our fight and we will continue to support them until the struggle is won.”
