Library local celebrates milestone
In its half-century of existence, the New York Public Library Guild, Local 1930 has stood on the frontline of union activism in the city and is steadfast in its commitment to serving library patrons in the second largest library system in the United States.
On May 6, the local celebrated its 50th anniversary at a gala in Queens.
In his remarks, DC 37 Executive Director Henry Garrido told the crowd of the importance the library workers have in maintaining the knowledge base.
“For fifty years, this local has not only been the custodians of our wealth of knowledge but has also fought every year to maintain funding for the libraries so everyone can have access to that knowledge,” said Garrido.
The local represents library workers in 88 branch libraries and four research centers in Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten Island.
