District Council 37 issues endorsements for City Council, Manhattan District Attorney, Brooklyn District Attorney, Queens Borough President Democratic Primaries

NEW YORK— District Council 37, New York City’s largest public sector union representing 150,000 workers and 89,000 retirees, announced its first endorsements today for New York City Council, Manhattan District Attorney, Brooklyn District Attorney, and Queens Borough President in the Democratic primary election. The slate includes incumbent City Council candidates jointly endorsed by the Labor Strong Coalition.

“DC 37 members need elected officials who are unafraid to take a stand for pro-worker values during a moment marked by an onslaught of policy attacks on public service workers,” said Henry Garrido, Executive Director of District Council 37. “Our mobilization efforts are underway to get out the vote to support these candidates and work together to protect labor standards for the workers who run New York City.”

Endorsements are issued following a vigorous screening process. Candidates seeking endorsement are evaluated based on their alignment with values that improve working conditions and uplift working families.

The union declined to endorse any candidate who supports anti-collective bargaining legislation like Intro. 1096-2024, a bill introduced by Council Member Christopher Marte that attempts to amend the City’s administrative code and undermine the union’s right to negotiate health care benefits for active workers and retirees. Additionally, the DC 37 Executive Board and Delegate body voted this month to revoke endorsements for incumbent elected officials who sign on to Intro. 1096.
